In most cases, YES!
In 2010 the Affordable Care Act was passed, requiring that all “new insurance plans must provide breastfeeding support, counseling, and equipment for the duration of breastfeeding. These services may be provided before and after birth.” There are very few plans that were grandfathered in and are exempt from this.

In-person Consult |
From the comfort of your own home or our local office, a consultant will address all of your breastfeeding and pumping questions or concerns. These visits usually last up to 90 minutes and allow us to go through a full feeding session including latching, bottle feeding, and pumping together. Your consultant will bring a special scale that allows up to weigh your baby before and after feeding to see how much milk your baby drinks from the breast. Each visit includes ongoing follow-up communication and support to monitor progress.
Virtual Consult |
Your consultant is specially trained in effective virtual consults. She is able to assist with all of your breastfeeding and pumping questions or concerns via a healthcare secure video portal. These visits usually last up to 60 minutes and allow us to complete a full feeding together including latching, bottle feeding and pumping. Each visit includes ongoing follow-up communication and support to monitor progress.
Breastfeeding help.
When your baby doesn’t latch on well it can be very painful. I can help you get a deep latch that will make breastfeeding more comfortable. I provide other tips and tricks for making the latching process go smoother.
Increasing milk supply and pumping help.
Not having enough breast milk for your baby is heartbreaking. I’ll show you simple ways to increase your breast milk supply and maintain it. I will share pumping tips and tricks with you to help you use your breast pump more effectively.
Prenatal breastfeeding classes & education.
Our lactation consultants tailor this hour and a half education session to you and your feeding goals. There is so much to think about when you are pregnant, and knowing how to breastfeed your baby once she arrives can be a huge worry. The Thrive Lactation Center breastfeeding class will teach you what you need to know to latch your baby and breastfeed successfully right after birth.

Sarah Schooler, MSN, RN, IBCLC
Sarah has two Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of Florida, one in Health Education and the other in Nursing. She also has a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from Jacksonville University. She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and has additional certifications in infant oral function. She has 5 years of experience as a Neonatal ICU nurse and has been a full-time lactation consultant since 2016.

Dr. Emily Walkey is a board-certified expert in both Pediatrics and Breastfeeding Medicine. With a passion for supporting families in their feeding journeys, she provides comprehensive care through in-office and virtual consultations.
Dr. Walkey specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of breastfeeding and feeding challenges. She offers frenectomy (tongue-tie surgery) and provides expert guidance for improving painful latch, addressing low or oversupply issues, and managing recurrent mastitis or clogged ducts in breastfeeding mothers. Her personalized approach ensures that every family receives the support and solutions they need to thrive.

Rhonda is a bachelor’s prepared registered nurse with 42 years of experience in Maternal Child Health and Lactation Support/Education.
